ETON MESS

 

A beautiful summer evening on the terrace, the barbecue still hangs in the air, the wine is opened and everyone enjoys the quiet evening. The perfect time to serve the dessert.

Eton Mess is a dessert of English cuisine, which is made of fresh berries, meringues and whipped cream. It is believed that the dessert has its origin in the Eton College. The dessert is said to have been served in the 1930s as Eton`s Mess, consisting of strawberries and cream, later leftover meringue was added, thus becoming a success until today.

 




Ingredients

  • 380 g meringue
  • 700 g mixed berries
  • 50 g sugar
  • 200 ml cream
  • 125 g crème fraîche
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar

 

 

Preparation

  • wash, clean and quarter the berries. Sprinkle the sugar over them and mix.
  • In a bowl, mix the cream, crème fraîche and vanilla sugar and whisk until stiff.
  • break the meringue into coarse pieces and set aside.
  • Fill a large glass bowl or smaller glasses with berries, cream mixture and meringue in layers. Decorate with strawberries and red currants, if desired, and serve.
